As They Condemn
|
Every boy without a father Every man without a son Every woman who held her child As life pumped From flesh untimely ripped Every man turned to animal In the front lines metal hail Every hollow eye that stared As the shells Still rained inside his head When the judgement comes They will stand on the scales And as they condemn So shall you be condemned Bodies buried in rubble of London New York, Beirut, Baghdad Men drowned in Flanders mud And bones White in African sands Every family burned to cinder In Dresden's storm of fire Every body turned from flesh To ash In the light of a thousand suns When the judgement comes They will stand on the scales And as they condemn So shall you be condemned Leading the world to war From behind All the bodies that you pushed Into the fire Will rise up on your last day And tear you down Your screams will echo theirs In Hell Every boy without a father Every man without a son Every woman without her child Each one Who died at your command When the judgement comes They will stand on the scales And as they condemn So shall you be condemned |
NotesI would not join the army. I would suffer prison time before they conscripted me. I fear for my son and would be proud of him if he were brave enough to object. Those who do go, we can't judge them, we who do not go. We should recognise their experience, and honour them even as we disagree with their actions. |
